Retinoculi is an exploration in the possibility of life beyond our planet, even beyond reality. Fascinated with the supernatural and imaginary since I was young, this series seeks to expand my reach beyond the stars to create creatures that would inhabit a space entirely separate from our own. The species “Retinoculus” imagines a massive alien lifeform that could adapt to live in a variety of environments, seen here in miniature. Each resin-cast Retinoculus sits in its own fabricated alien “ecosystem”; they can be observed in their entirety in their natural setting. Each figure is accompanied by a companion linocut print inspired by old monster movie posters and painted to match each unique strain of Retinoculi. These prints are each set against panels inspired by Sci-Fi experiment chambers, a setting that would allow this species to be explored up close and personal. These disparate forms reflect inspiration from the ways and forms different cultures have explored the possibilities of extraterrestrials through pop culture and media.
